When I was a primary school student, my science teacher taught us that atoms are the building blocks of all objects. These teeny tiny materials combine with each other to constitute everything in the universe, he said. In college, I was presented with a more granular view of matter. There are particles way tinier than atoms. This discovery made me wonder, ‘What is the fundamental constituent of the universe? What is it that cannot be created nor destroyed?’ The answer is energy.
Energy is the force that comprises everything—physical and intangible. You and I are made of energy. Our thoughts and feelings too. Based on this proposition, we can conclude that everything and everyone in the universe is connected. The loop that binds us all is an infinite, cosmic energy chain.
This means, even though; everything that’s external—appears to be separate from us—it’s not. We are all different manifestations of the same energy that shapes the universe. We aren’t disparate bodies—destined to live in isolation. We are all connected energy flows. Our common purpose? To reunite at our origin.
For anything in the world to flow; be it a river, a cloud of steam or a person; its constituents must be in sync. Thus, a river becomes an ocean only when every drop flows harmoniously into the massive water body. Similarly, the population of the world is a flow; that itself; is a part of the larger movement of energy in the universe. Like the river, the human species evolves when it’s in harmony with its ‘ocean’— the universe. And, this can happen only when every ‘droplet’ i.e. human being; is in sync with the universe.
How do we go out of sync? When we are born, we are like saplings. Our heart is open; our mind fluid. We’re devoid of judgement and preconceptions. In this stage of life, we allow every bit of information from the world to seep into our souls unfiltered— ensuring that we are in a state of perfect flow. This is why our consciousness is most fertile. However, as we become older, we get clouded by the ‘noise’ that emanates from our environment—opinions, biases etc. This information cloud makes us judgemental—preventing us from inviting the world in.
We are all familiar with the symptoms of the noise. Anxieties, worries, doubts, stresses, fears and so many other types of negativity. As a result, we foment negative energy onto our surroundings and lose our balance. Consequently, we are not able to enjoy the moment. This is extremely detrimental to our life satisfaction.
Life is a collection of moments and life satisfaction is the cumulative enjoyment of every moment. Thus, the key to being happy is to always be in the moment— cherishing and loving every creation of the universe.
