Oneness is a state of existence wherein a person is connected to the One i.e. the source of the universe’s energy. The process of connection is individual-specific. A person can immerse himself in a specific process and undertake a journey of spiritual growth to eventually connect to the One. He may choose that process depending on his nature, talent and preference. Irrespective of the path that he chooses, devotion to the Guru Tatwa is a key requirement to forge a deep connection.

The Guru Tatwa; i.e. the element of the Guru; is the supreme consciousness that one seeks to attain. It’s a super energy that manifests itself in different forms. We may feel this energy within a person; a plant; an animal or even an inanimate product like a book. The embodiment of this spirit is the Guru. Irrespective of the manifestation, our affection for our guru should be unconditional. This means that we must love our guru without expecting anything in return.

It is through our devotion to the Guru Tatwa that we can cast aside our ego and accept the supremacy of nature. We are then able to free our mind from pre-conceived judgements and can experience child-like awe, wonderment and innocence. In this state of being, we flow with the energy of the universe and enjoy deep satisfaction.

Devotion cannot be forced. It must come from within. We have to first surrender to our Guru by making sacrifices to remove our inhibitions. Sacrifice kindles the flame of love for the Guru Tatwa; thereby accelerating our journey to a deeper state of consciousness. Thereafter, we develop the faith to fully surrender ourselves to the guru. Upon surrendering, we experience a surge of love. A surge that connects us deeper to the One and makes us radiate happiness—energising the universe.
